Mazolli reaches for a mug on the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard. His hand knocks over a glass vase next to the mugs. It rolls over the edge of the cupboard and begins falling. Mazolli grabs for it, touches it in mid air, reaches for it again, sees its end brush his thumb, and watches it spin to the floor where it explodes into fragments on the linoleum. Everything okay in there? asks Terrastina from the living room. Mazolli steps away from the glass pieces. The good news is the kitchen floor will be just fine, he says.
