Episode 301: Don’t Be a Stranger

The twins are asleep. Terrastina and Mazolli sit on the couch downstairs playing cards. The front door opens. A young man in pajamas steps inside, wordlessly closes the door, and walks into the kitchen. Mazolli and Terrastina look at each other. They hear the faucet running. They go to the kitchen. They see the man drinking a glass of water. He must be sleepwalking, says Terrastina. The man puts the glass down, wipes his mouth with his sleeve, then walks out the front door, carefully closing it behind him. Polite chap, says Mazolli. I’d invite him back any time.

We have a friend from North Carolina who sleepwalks. In the nude. I'm sure he's polite too.

He told us that when he lived in N.C., neighbors told him he would show up at their doors in the middle of the night. In the nude. They were understanding neighbors, he said. Some of them were relatives.

When he stayed with us at our first condo, we found him at 3 a.m. standing at the railing of our 18th floor balcony. In the nude. Vicki led him gently back inside and he went back to sleep. She had on pajamas.
