Episode 220: The Power of Music

Terrastina finds a deerskin hoop drum with a beater in the back of a closet. I didn’t know we had this, she says. I made that years ago, says Mazolli. Terrastina taps the skin with the beater. A low thump reverberates through the house. That’s a nice sound, she says. She bangs the drum repeatedly, varying the force to get a feel for the acoustics. The twins begin jumping up and down in time to the beat. Mazolli joins in. Terrastina circles around them. She holds the drum high and beats it hard until sweat pours from her forehead.
