The twins ask about Mazolli’s parents. I guess you’re old enough to know, says Mazolli. My mom and dad died many years ago. They were on a boat together on the ocean, going to look at whales, and got caught in a bad storm. The boat overturned and all the people drowned. The twins look stunned. Mazolli thinks maybe he should have explained the events in a more gentle manner. I’m never going out on any boat, says one of the twins. Don’t worry, says Mazolli, who has never been on a boat. These days they are completely safe.
