Mazolli finds several yellow jackets buzzing around the car. He opens the door and pulls off two small rounded paper nests of hexagonal chambers from the door jamb. The yellow jackets buzz around him but none sting. He takes the nests into the house. Maybe you can use these for some of your art, he says to Terrastina. Her face brightens. Thanks, she says, they’ll be perfect eyes for that giant fly I’m making from those old kitchen utensils I got at the flea market. Makes sense, says Mazolli. The yellow jackets obviously had a higher purpose in mind.
