Mazolli stops at the convenience store and pencils in a lottery form with the birthdays of Terrastina, the twins, and himself. He hands the clerk the form with a dollar bill. The clerk feeds the form into her machine, which spits out a receipt with Mazolli’s numbers printed on it. He takes the ticket home and sticks it on the fridge with a magnet. Terrastina sees it there. Another lottery ticket? she asks. One of these days, says Mazolli, those numbers are going to be winners. The drawing is in two days. Prepare to be rich beyond your dreams.
