Episode 94: Putting Their Minds at Ease

Terrastina and Mazolli take the twins to the lava beds north of town. They walk over and around boulders formed when the lava flowed, cooled, and cracked thousands of years ago. The twins hear high-pitched squeaks. What’s that? they ask. Pikas, says Terrastina. They live in the cracks between the rocks. They’re small and very shy, so mostly you hear them but don’t see them. The twins sit beside a small dark hole in the dirt under a boulder. Some people, says Mazolli, think Bigfoot eats pikas. Don’t worry, say the twins. We won’t eat any of the pikas.
