One evening while Terrastina is upstairs bathing the twins, Mazolli answers a knock at the front door. It is a man offering to draw Mazolli’s house for a fee. He shows Mazolli some of the other houses he has drawn. Why would anyone buy a drawing of their house? asks Mazolli. You can go out and look at your own house any time you want. In winter, the man says, when it rains for weeks and you just want to scream, you can look at the drawing of your house on your wall and start to feel sane again.
