Episode 30: Good Work Rewarded

Mazolli cuts the grass with a manual push mower. He likes the chatter of the spinning blades and the green blur of the clippings arcing over the wheels. It takes him about an hour to finish the lawn. He sips from a water bottle the whole time. When the lawn is done he rakes up the clippings and tosses them onto the compost. He cools down on the front steps with the rest of the water. Tiny red mites, no bigger than the dot on an i, scurry in circles on the steps. Many crawl up onto Mazolli’s hand.
