Episode 225: Landscapes

Mazolli wakes in the middle of the night. A heavy rain beats down on the roof. He slips out of bed and goes to the kitchen and sits at the table. The sound on the roof continues its relentless thrumming. Mazolli looks up at the ceiling. He studies the pattern of the plaster as though it was an ancient message written in secret code. A crack in one corner makes him think of an earthquake. The rain, eternal background, makes him think of a flood. The thought of rising water gives him a surprising and reassuring feeling of security.
