Episode 67: Good Neighbor

Terrastina dumps a bucket of kitchen scraps onto the compost pit in the backyard. She tosses on some dried grass and mixes it all up with a stick. Her activities stir some spiders to action. They skitter out from the bottom of the pit, dodging browning lettuce leaves and carrot, potato, apple, and broccoli peelings. The spiders are huffy black dots, roused from their natural laziness to a frenzy of frantic zagging and zigging. Sorry, says Terrastina. She watches them gradually calm down, then return to their lairs in the compost. Fair warning, she says, I will be back.
